A Library Orientation Program was successfully organized today for the newly admitted students of B.Sc. Semester-1 at Gujarat Arts and Science College. The session, held in Room M-5 (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hall) of the Main Building, aimed to familiarize students with the college library’s resources and services to support their academic journey.

The orientation was conducted by Dr. Sandip Patel, the college Librarian, who addressed the students and highlighted the essential functions and services provided by the library. The key topics covered during the session included:

  • Library Services: A comprehensive overview of the services available to both students and faculty members.
  • Library Resources: Detailed information on the various resources like textbooks, reference books, journals, newspapers, and magazines.
  • Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC): An explanation of how to use the OPAC system to search for and locate books within the library.
  • Library Rules and Regulations: An outline of the rules to ensure proper use and discipline within the library premises.
  • E-Resources and Digital Tools: Guidance on accessing digital resources and tools available for academic and research needs.
  • ONOS (One Nation One Subscription): Dr. Patel explained this government initiative, highlighting how it provides equitable access to a wide range of academic e-resources, journals, and databases for all students and researchers across India, including those at the college.

Following the orientation session, students were taken on a physical tour of the college library. They explored various sections, including the reading area, reference section, circulation desk, and digital access facilities. This tour provided them with a firsthand understanding of the library’s layout and functions.

The program was highly informative and successfully provided the new students with a clear understanding of how to effectively utilize the library’s resources to support their academic journey.
