Gujarat Arts and Science College

Gujarat College Magazine Digital Archive (1902–Present)

Established in 1861, Gujarat Arts and Science College is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in Gujarat, functioning under the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, Government of Gujarat. Renowned for its rich academic legacy, the College has played a significant role in shaping the educational, cultural, literary, and national life of the state.

The College began publishing its annual magazine in 1902 under the title “Gujarat College Magazine.” In 1950, it was renamed “Vikas,” and since 1962, it has been published regularly as “Vidhyavikas.” Spanning more than a century, these magazines serve as a valuable historical record of the College’s academic, cultural, literary, architectural, and institutional development. They also document the College’s contribution to India’s freedom movement, the remarkable achievements of its alumni, and many significant milestones in its history.

With the objective of preserving this invaluable heritage for future generations, Dr. Sandip Patel, under the guidance of Dr. Pankaj B. Solanki, Principal, successfully completed the in-house digitization of all available issues of Gujarat College Magazine, Vikas, and Vidyavikas (from 1902 to the present) at the Veer Shahid Vinod Kinariwala Library.

All available issues have been converted into searchable OCR-enabled e-books and are now freely accessible through the Library website. Students, faculty members, researchers, alumni, historians, and the general public can now read these rare historical publications online and download them in PDF format.
